24 Weeks / 6 months

How far along: 24 Weeks / 6 Months!

How big is baby: Your baby's growing steadily, having gained about 4 ounces since last week. That puts him at about 1 1/3 pounds. Since he's almost a foot long (about the size of an ear of corn), he cuts a pretty lean figure at this point, but his body is filling out proportionally and he'll soon start to plump up.

This week's big developments: His brain is also growing quickly now, and his taste buds are continuing to develop. His lungs are developing "branches" of the respiratory "tree" as well as cells that produce surfactant, a substance that will help his air sacs inflate once he hits the outside world. His skin is still thin and translucent, but that will start to change soon

My Body: In the past few weeks, the top of your uterus has risen above your belly button and is now about the size of a soccer ball. Most women have a glucose screening test (also called a glucose challenge test or GCT) between now and 28 weeks.

Weight gain/loss:  Clinic weight I am up a total of 13 lbs, gaining 5 this last month. Home weight which I started weighing myself a month earlier is up 18 total...yikes!!
Maternity clothes: I feel like since I actually have a belly starting, my size medium maternity clothes are not long enough...so now I need to go up a size :(  I am disappointed because I returned some size larges in July due to thinking it would be too big.
Best moment this week: Ultrasound, gender reveal :) Strangers are noticing that I am pregnant :) FINALLY!
Movement: Lots of movement, it's the best part of being pregnant.
Miss Anything: Being able to get comfortable easily.
Food cravings: Buffalo Wings (w bone) I normally don't like spicy food but love these and they don't taste spicy.
Symptoms: I cant drink anything without having to go to the bathroom almost immediately. I had to empty some of my bladder in order to get through the ultrasound without wetting my pants.
Sleep: horrible last night. My back and hips hurt so I couldn't get comfortable thus little to no sleep.
Anything making you queasy or sick: Back to needing to eat often or I get sick.
Gender: BOY!!! I cant wait to meet him.
Looking forward to: First shower next week :)

Baby Room: I want to do blue somehow, either just light blue or a variety of shades, teal, or a combination of  blue and green.  We have black furniture. Currently the walls are khaki colored. I am debating if I keep it or paint walls light blue or grey. I am thinking I want to paint the trim white to lighten it up.  We also are going to put shelves up and have legos, that Nathan has built on them...our boy will love legos :)

23 Weeks

How far along: 23 Weeks

How big is baby:  Baby is more than 11 inches long and weighs just over a pound (about the size of a large mango).

This week's big developments: With her sense of movement well developed by now, your baby can feel you dance, you may be able to see her squirm underneath your clothes. Blood vessels in her lungs are developing to prepare for breathing, and the sounds that your baby's increasingly keen ears pick up are preparing her for entry into the outside world. Loud noises that become familiar now — such as your dog barking or the roar of the vacuum cleaner — probably won't faze her when she hears them outside the womb.
  • Baby is forming little nipples (yeah, really!)
  • Her/His face is fully formed now -- she/he just needs a little extra fat to fill it out.
  • She/ He is listening to your voice and your heartbeat -- and even to loud sounds like cars honking and dogs barking.

  • My Body: You may notice that your ankles and feet start to swell a bit in the coming weeks or months, especially at the end of the day or during the heat of summer. Sluggish circulation in your legs — coupled with changes in your blood chemistry that may cause some water retention — may result in swelling, also known as edema. Your body will get rid of the extra fluid after you have your baby, which is why you'll pee frequently and sweat a lot for a few days after delivery. In the meantime, lie on your left side or put your feet up when you can, stretch out your legs when you sit, and avoid sitting — or standing — in one place for long periods. (babycenter)

    Ultrasound:
We had ultrasound this past Monday. It was amazing to be able to see our little one moving around and to see all of his or her parts...hands...fingers....face...arms...legs.  I have a little person growing inside me. Here are two pictures we were able to take off the disc of pictures without accidentally seeing the gender shot. After the gender reveal Saturday (Tomorrow) I will be able to look at the entire disc of 22 pictures including the picture that shows the gender :)  It was so hard for me to turn my head away during the ultrasound when they were in the gender area.

Weight gain/loss: up total of 15 lbs according to weighing myself at home.
Maternity clothes: Nothing new, but normal t-shirts don't cover my belly--Nathan likes to tease me.
Best moment this week: Ultrasound...seeing our little one.
Movement: Lots of movement, it's the best part of being pregnant. Today (Friday) I have had a busy day of getting ready for the part so I have not really felt baby, hoping when I climb into bed I feel baby.
Miss Anything: Being able to get comfortable easily.
    Food cravings: nothing really
Symptoms: I cant drink anything without having to go to the bathroom almost immediately. I had to empty some of my bladder in order to get through the ultrasound without wetting my pants.
    Sleep: Better this week.
Anything making you queasy or sick: Back to needing to eat often or I get sick.
Gender: Unknown until our Gender Reveal Saturday, we get to find out with close friends and family. I cannot wait!
Looking forward to: Gender Reveal Saturday :) Will post pictures after. Appointment with Midwife this week as well.

Not sure I will be able to fit in this much longer

    22 Weeks!

    How Far Along: 22 Weeks

    How big is baby:
At 11 inches and almost 1 pound (about the size of a spaghetti squash), your baby is starting to look like a miniature newborn. His lips, eyelids, and eyebrows are becoming more distinct, and he's even developing tiny tooth buds beneath his gums. His eyes have formed, but his irises (the colored part of the eye) still lack pigment. (babycenter.com)
  • Now that baby's got more developed eyes and lips, he/she is looking even more like a newborn.
  • He / she is sleeping in cycles -- about 12 to 14 hours per day (hint: they're probably those times you're not feeling any kicks!).

  • This week's big developments:
At this point, you may find your belly becoming a hand magnet. It's perfectly okay to tell folks who touch your tummy that you'd rather they didn't. And if people are telling you that you look smaller or bigger than you should at this point, remember that each woman grows — and shows — at her own rate.

Weight gain/loss: up total of 15 lbs according to weighing myself at home.
Maternity clothes: I picked up a pair of grey pants this week.
Best moment this week: Nathan feeling baby move this week! He finally did it!
Movement: Aunt Brittany felt baby move this week. Baby is moving a lot! It is my favorite part of being pregnant. It is hard for me to believe at times that I am carrying my child inside me.
    Miss Anything:
Food cravings: nothing really, my appetite has decreased this past week it seems.
Symptoms: I cant drink anything without having to go to the bathroom almost immediately.
    Sleep: Better this week.
Anything making you queasy or sick: Back to needing to eat often or I get sick.

Gender: Unknown. We get to see baby Monday at our ultrasound!!!
Looking forward to: Ultrasound Monday!! I cant wait to see what our baby looks like now. The first ultrasound at 7.5 weeks was a blob, seeing features will be wonderful!!

    21 Weeks!

    How far along: 21 Weeks

    How big is baby:
Your baby now weighs about three-quarters of a pound and is approximately 10 1/2 inches long — about the size of a carrot. You may soon feel like she's practicing martial arts as her initial fluttering movements turn into full-fledged kicks and nudges. You may also discover a pattern to her activity as you get to know her better. In other developments, your baby's eyebrows and lids are present now, and if you're having a girl, her vagina has begun to form as well.

This week's big developments: You're probably feeling pretty comfortable these days. You're not too big yet, and the usual discomforts associated with early pregnancy are, for the most part, gone. If you're feeling good, relax and enjoy it while you can — the third trimester may bring with it a new crop of complaints. You're also more prone to varicose veins now. As your pregnancy progresses, there's increasing pressure on the veins in your legs; higher progesterone levels, which may cause the walls of your veins to relax, can make the problem worse. You're more likely to get varicose veins if other family members have them.

    Weight gain/loss: I don't regularly weigh myself
Maternity clothes: Same- I need a few more "work pants."
Best moment this week: Registering was fun to do! It was nice t get started. I look forward to after the gender reveal adding more gender specific items.
Movement: Grandma Marrie felt baby move. Daddy is too "freaked out" to come near my belly.
Miss Anything: Not being so emotional!!
Food cravings: Chocolate. I went to the store and purchased dark chocolate m &m's, chocolate covered raisins and chocolate ice cream.
Symptoms: Same as last week: I am easily tired (a few meetings or activities and I am done), Dizziness or lightheadedness when I stand to quickly or come up from the basement. I notice I run into things/ bump corners. I have been so emotional --crying for no reason or just because I am overwhelmed.
Sleep: Sleeping has been horrible!!! I toss and turn and just want to sleep on my back (which I have never wanted to in my life).  I may need to try the bed in the spare room or get a recliner ;)
Anything making you queasy or sick:  nothing
Gender: Unknown. Ultrasound scheduled for September 16th and gender reveal the 21st. I cant wait to start decorating the nursery :)
Looking forward to: Nathan not being freaked out and actually feel my belly! We are starting this weekend to arrange our house to clear out the room that will be the nursery YAY!
