8 Weeks

I do not know where this last week went! It seemed I was just writing about him being 7 weeks. This time is going by way to fast! Saturday Micah will be two months old!!! Man it just blows my mind. I have noticed as I get closer to having to go back to work the more clingy I get; I don't want him out of my sight!

Micah had his first trip to Iowa this week! Micah and Mommy went to visit Janice, Billy and Reed! It seems that when Micah is away from home he is more fussy. After his time in the car he gets fussy--I think due to gas issues. Gripe water helps during these times.   He slept great while in Iowa waking once or twice. Last night, our first night back, Micah woke at 12, 2, 4, 6 and 8. This was tough after having several days of more sleep. I need more practice swaddling because he kept breaking out of it.

Micah seems to want to be held by me and then when I am holding him he, almost always, wants to then eat.

Micah is chewing on his fingers more...which is really cute.

Baby Development (babycenter): Your baby can tell the difference between familiar voices and other sounds, and he's becoming a better listener. He can also show you that he's in tune with his environment. Notice how he looks to see where certain noises are coming from.
An ongoing conversation (although seemingly one-sided) can help your baby develop his sense of place. He may even watch your mouth as you talk, fascinated by how it all works. You'll be amazed by his ability to communicate with a growing repertory of coos (musical, vowel-like sounds), smiles, and unique cries to express his different needs.

*Micah is making more sounds (when he is in a good mood). It is fun to feel like we are talking. It is so adorable!!!!

7 Weeks!

Mr. Micah is 7 weeks old!

March 6th- it is definite that Micah is now smiling in response to us! It is so fun to have this form of interaction and a start of his personality.  He has also started making cooing noises :) I have been capturing as much as possible on videos so we can look back when he is bigger.

We have been swaddling him more these days. It was recommended by a friend to try it. One night this week I swaddled him at 10pm he fell asleep without rocking, didn't wake up till 4am . Micah tends to sleep longer and go back to sleep quicker on his own...not every time but more often then not.

I found a milk blister this week. It made breast feeding painful.  In case you don't know what it is, I know I didn't; "A milk blister, or blocked nipple pore, is also called a bleb or nipple blister, or simply “milk under the skin.” It occurs when a tiny bit of skin overgrows a milk duct opening and milk backs up behind it. A milk blister usually shows up as a painful white, clear or yellow dot on the nipple or areola, and the pain tends to be focused at that spot and just behind it." http://kellymom.com/bf/concerns/mother/nipplebleb/

Nathan and I went on a date this week without Micah. Micah spent Monday evening with Grandma Marrie, Grandpa Bob and Aunt Hannah. He did really good! I missed him a lot! Nathan and I went to Red Lobster (I was craving seafood) and we saw the 300 movie.  I learned that if I am going to be away from him for 3 or more hours I need to pump. I was so full and uncomfortable!!
Micah and I joined Nathan on a work trip to Madison this week. We left Tuesday afternoon and returned Wednesday evening. Micah did great in the car; he slept :) Uncle Taylor met us in Madison for lunch. This was the first time he saw Micah. We had lunch and visited.  On our way home we stopped at the Dells outlet mall and did some shopping. It was a nice mini getaway!

Milestones:
-Sucking on his hands more
-No more newborn diapers now in size 1's
-Wearing 3mo clothes...he is so long!
-Started to fight sleep, his eyes get red and he gets fussy. I give him his nuk, hold him close and rock or sway...he eventually stops crying and falls asleep.

funny lip ;)
He scratched himself this week :(

Aunt Marsha, cousin Brandon and cousin Megan came to visit!

6 Weeks!

It is hard to believe another week has gone by! My "maternity leave" is halfway over :(  I am enjoying this time to spend with my little boy. I am dreading in 6 more weeks to have to balance work, family time and life with a baby.  I cant think about it without getting sad.

Pumping has been going great. These past two weeks I have frozen 23 oz. I typically pump twice a day, once in the am and then pm.  I am hoping to have a large supply for when I go back to work so I don't stress.

Micah has been smiling so much more these days...I keep thinking he is responding to me but I am not 100% sure yet..I like to think he is though :)
According to Babycenter.com "At 6 weeks, about half of all babies can recognize their parents, and many of those babies are so delighted that they welcome Mom or Dad with an excited, gurgly grin. This is one of the first signs that your baby is developing an ability to socialize.  In fact, it's called a "social smile," and it's one of the more emotionally gratifying milestones you'll see your baby reach. "

Micah has discovered his tongue!
